Looks like the overreacting from the last episode of Real World continued into this one. Bravo MTV editors, pat your darn selves on the backs!
I feel sorry for Dustin in this episode, I really do, and NOT just because his abs are so lickable. I mean first of all, his little porn career is more likely than not the very reason MTV cast him. Second of all, everyone’s reactions are so over the top and drenched in unfair judgment and a wee bit o’ homophobia. Even Leroy, although he has another shining moment of maturity and wisdom when he sits Dustin down and tells him he won’t judge him, disappoints me by saying Dustin should go home. Let’s see what we’ve learned from this latest round of nonsense.
1. Don’t judge.
I know it’s hard, and I know we all do it from time to time, but it’s just a basic rule to live by. Try it some time.
2. Don’t gossip with malicious intent.
This is another thing we all do, but I truly believe gossip can be harmless when it’s kept light and simple. In my humble opinion, Adam, Nany and Naomi are pretty malicious in discussing what happened with Dustin with the other roommates.
3. Homophobia can be a sign of homosexuality.
Hello, Dave Karofsky on Glee. Duh.
4. Not everything is about you.
It’s hard for some of us to step away from our ongoing inner dialogue and remember that the world does not in fact revolve around us, and I think little miss Heather needs reminding of this. Dustin’s dirty website past is obviously a serious internal struggle for him but she’s only worried about how it affects her. Bit selfish there, eh Heath?
5. Don’t pity people.
Mike Mike thoroughly annoys me when he says he feels sorry for Dustin. No one wants your pity. They want sympathy, understanding, respect, maybe even a little empathy if you’re capable of such a profound emotion. Pity is condescending.
6. Don’t be a f*ck!ng HYPOCRITE.
HEATHER! SWEET SCENES OF YOU MAKING OUT WITH NANY, A FELLOW GIRL, IN THE NEXT EPISODE AFTER SH!TTING ALL OVER DUSTIN FOR HIS “GAY PORN” AND SAYING YOU’D NEVER HOOK UP WITH A GUY WHO COULD HOOK UP WITH ANOTHER GUY. #OHOKAY (Again, though, nice job with the episode planning MTV editors!)
7. There is always a reason for the way a person is.
Example: Dustin’s bipolar mother. I’m not saying Dustin’s career choice is a direct result of his mother’s illness, but going through something like that affects your decisions and actions in all kinds of situations. The boy is Mr. Light Hearted and Carefree on the surface but there’s clearly so much more going on.
8. If you’re serious about being in a relationship with someone, tell him/her things you wouldn’t tell other people.
Despite Heather’s bratty behavior I agree with Leroy’s point (of course) that Dustin should have at least told her since they’re so convinced they’re in a serious relationship. I just think it’s a tad absurd that she mentioned marriage and kids with Dustin and they’ve only been sleeping together for a few weeks, but that’s neither here nor there.
9. Don’t pretend something didn’t happen.
Something such as a huge blowout fight between all the girls in the house. As my dear friend Brandon pointed out to me, it seems everybody just conveniently forgot about what happened with Cooke. I applaud her for taking this opportunity to bond with the roommates, but if I were her I would not go out to eat with the 2 girls who woke me up specifically to scream in my face just a few nights before.
10. No good ever comes from a webcam.
I believe Donald and I disagree on a few points this week but that’s all right, I still love him 😉 I’d love to hear what you all think about this one!
